“Patrick did an amazing job with my scalp micropigmentation. From the start, the experience was great, he was very informative, explained everything clearly, and made me feel comfortable the whole time. I'm super happy with the results. It looks natural and clean. Highly recommend Patrick if you're considering SMP.”

“For a moment, I thought I could get my hairline back and look like Justin Bieber. But after learning that a hair transplant would involve taking two different medications for six to eight months before surgery — and then indefinitely…”

How it works

No surgery. No pills.
No downtime.

Start with step one

Free consultation

In person at the studio or virtually. Your hair loss, your goals, and a straight answer on whether SMP is right for you.

Design & shade

Your hairline is drawn to your face and age, and a shade is custom-mixed to your skin tone and hair colour.

Building sessions

Density is layered gradually rather than all at once, so the result grows in and never arrives looking sudden.

Heal & live with it

Full healing takes around four weeks after the final session. After that: sunscreen, and get on with your life.

The pigment

Four ingredients. That's the whole list.

Pigment2Scalp uses 5PM Shadow — a carbon-based ink formulated specifically for scalps, not borrowed from body tattooing. Organic, vegan, and made of distilled water, carbon black, isopropyl alcohol and witch hazel.

The honest bit

Clients rate the pain a 2 out of 10.

No anesthetics are used, and none are needed. SMP is a stippling technique into the upper layers of the scalp — closer to a firm tapping than a tattoo. Results last three to seven years before they soften.

The artist

A fine-art eye,
pointed at your hairline.

Patrick Presco is the only artist at Pigment2Scalp — he does the consultation, the design and every session himself. He came to SMP from a BA in Art, and it shows in the part that matters most: where the hairline sits, how soft it starts, and how the density falls away behind it.

BA in ArtA background in fine art and graphic design, applied to balance, realism and proportion.

What it costs

Priced on your scalp,
not on a menu.

There's no flat price for SMP, because there's no flat amount of scalp. Cost is set by how much area needs covering and how dense you want it — which is exactly what the free consultation is for.

Questions

The things people ask
before they commit.

Ask yours in person
Does it actually look real?
Done properly, yes — it reads as a natural, fuller head of closely-cropped hair. The giveaway on bad SMP is dots that are too big, too dark or too uniform. The whole craft is varying impression size, depth and shade so the eye reads texture instead of pattern. The healed photos above are the honest test.
How long does it last?
Typically three to seven years before a touch-up is wanted. It doesn't vanish — it gradually softens and loses definition rather than disappearing. Sun and UV exposure are by far the biggest cause of faster fading, so a mineral sunblock on the scalp is the single best thing you can do for it.
How much does it hurt?
Clients rate it around a 2 out of 10. No anesthetics are used. Pigment is placed in the upper layers of the scalp, which is far shallower than a body tattoo.
How do you pick the colour?
A shade is custom-mixed for you at the start, matched to your skin tone and your natural hair colour. There's no standard black — grey and white hair, and every skin tone, get their own mix.
What ink do you use?
5PM Shadow: a carbon-based pigment formulated specifically for scalp micropigmentation. It's organic and vegan, with four ingredients — distilled water, carbon black, isopropyl alcohol and witch hazel.
What's the healing like?
Sessions sit roughly two weeks apart, so you move from one healing phase straight into the next. Full healing takes about four weeks after your final session, as the pigment settles into its true colour. After that there's no special scalp care — just sunblock during long sun exposure.
Will it work on my level of hair loss?
SMP suits receding or uneven hairlines, thinning or patchy crowns, diffuse thinning, bald areas, alopecia, and hair transplants that didn't reach the density you wanted. The free consultation exists to tell you honestly whether you're a good candidate — including when the answer is no.
